Organizational Overview:

Women for Women International works in some of the most dangerous places to be a woman. We serve women survivors of war in conflict and post-conflict areas around the world in 8 countries including Afghanistan, Iraq, Eastern Congo, and Northern Nigeria. Our core belief is that stronger women build stronger nations; and with access to knowledge, resources, and a support network, a woman rebuilds her life and improves her community.

Our model works and we have the data to prove it. In our 26-year history, Women for Women International has reached over half a million women. The women we work with across 3 continents earn just $0.81 a day when we enroll them. At graduation, it’s $2.11, nearly tripled.

Our impact goes beyond income. The number of women who say at least one household member went to sleep hungry in the last four weeks has gone from 18% to 5%. And more women say they speak out against women's abuse: 26% report having publicly spoken in the last 6 months against physically abusing women.

When women have the right tools, they realize the power within themselves to transform their lives, their families, their communities, and finally their entire nations.


Project Description:

The Summer 2020 Executive Department Intern will assist the Executive team with projects related to the Global Board of Directors and work closely with the organization’s CEO.

The internship will require 20-25 hours per week commitment with an anticipated start date of May 26th, 2020 and possible End Date: August 14th, 2020; a $195 monthly stipend for 3 months will be provided.

This is an excellent opportunity for undergraduate or graduate students looking to obtain valuable experience in the nonprofit space, and the inner workings on an international nonprofit grassroots women’s development organization.


Duties and Responsibilities:

The list below indicates the types of Executive Department projects on which the Executive intern might work-

  • Conducting research on potential prospects for the Global Board of Directors
  • Creating profiles of potential Global Board prospects
  • Tracking outreach to Global Board prospects and recording outcomes of initial meetings
  • Assisting in managing the CEO’s daily schedule and travel plans (scheduling meetings and conference calls, creating itineraries, etc.)
  • Recording meeting minutes for the CEO as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Undergraduate or Graduate student
  • Interest in learning how international nonprofit organizations operate a plus
  • Superior organization and prioritization skills as well as attention to detail
  • Interest in women’s issues, conflict, and international development
  • Excellent Microsoft suite skills
  • Strong research and critical thinking skills;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work interdependently and communicate with people;
  • Experience working in an office environment.
  • Detail oriented self-starter.
  • Desire to learn and be flexible.
