Women for Women is hiring a Development Officer.

 

Since 1993, Women for Women International, a global NGO, has invested in the power of over 500,000 women who are forgotten – the women survivors of war and conflict. We support them in learning the social and economic skills they need to rebuild their lives, their families, and their communities.

The Development Officer is an integral part of WfWI’s Marketing, Development & Communications unit (MD&C), and plays a critical role in ensuring the success of a growing individual giving program. This passionate and enthusiastic fundraiser supports the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major donors and planned giving prospects, while also providing general clerical support for the Development team to leverage fundraising efforts for maximum impact. Responsibilities of this position include an emphasis on supporting donor and prospective donor relationship management, data management and reporting for fundraising initiatives across Development, and the documentation and/or revision of team-wide operations and processes.  This position also performs dedicated support for special projects for the Development Director and the team, as needed.

 

Donor Relationship Management Support:

  • In collaboration with External Engagement and the Events Team, manages event processes related to major gifts, including but not limited to creation of invitation lists, invitation follow up, and creation of the lookbook, and ensures that all Development-related tasks are completed on time.
  • Actively contributes to the production of major donor outreach and engagement activities as needed, working with colleagues to collect or fact-check content, editing and revising materials when appropriate, and shepherding content through the creation and revision process.

 

Data Management and Reporting:

  • Works with the Director of Development to project and track revenue for the middle donor program.
  • Working with the Director of Development, conducts data audits in advance of major Development initiatives to ensure accuracy and cleanliness of both the data and the lists produced.

 

Donor Relationship Management Support:

  • Conducts research on current and prospective donors, synthesizing and applying capacity and giving inclination findings to constituent records, and preparing briefings to share with Development staff and Leadership.
  • Conducts efficient research and prospect management systems and processes, including prospect tracking in the database, coordinating prospect review meetings, etc.
  • Provides support for all aspects of donor meetings for the Development team and Leadership, including coordinating and delivering donor and prospect meeting briefings, developing donor reports, preparing materials for visits, and facilitating post-visit activities and follow up.
  • Supports the creation and execution of materials and activities for individual or small groups of VIP donors and prospects, including but not limited to personalized correspondence, major gifts solicitations and appeals, tailored grant proposals and reports, and other seasonal outreach. Tasks related to these projects may include pulling and managing recipient lists, serving as primary contact for colleagues and/or vendors producing the final “product,” preparing mailings, and submitting completed proposals.
  • Ensures proper documentation and completion of administrative activities related to planned gifts.

 

Data Management and Reporting:

  • Serves as an active member of the Development team, supporting goal setting, as well as processes and procedures, including:
    • Maintaining accurate and updated constituent data in the WFWI donor database, Salesforce,
    • Ensuring upkeep of pipeline and tracking systems for all types of donor engagements, including prospect plans and moves managements, and
    • Coordinating major gifts pipeline review meetings with the Department and other staff.
  • Ensures accurate and timely entry of major gifts activities information in Salesforce.
  • Enters and tracks projections, proposals, pledges, and reporting requirements for donors in major gifts portfolios.
  • Produces, manages, and disseminates various reports on fundraising progress to goals, pipeline development, and portfolio tracking for the Development team and MD&C Leads.
  • Provides general Salesforce support, including creating reports, and creating or shepherding the creation of new or special fields in coordination with the Salesforce Administrator.
  • Holds primary responsibility for defining and executing data cleanup projects – projects carried out independently and as a unit – working in close collaboration with the Salesforce Administrator and Donor Services, when required.

 

Development Team Operations:

  • With the support of the Director of Development, and working with colleagues across the department, drafts business rules related to moves management and other Development operations.
  • Serves as primary resource for Development-related meetings with tasks including, but not limited to coordinating department meetings, managing agendas, providing relevant materials, etc.
  • Serves as primary Finance department contact for Development accounting and reporting.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for Development team vendors, managing contract timelines and payment schedules.
  • As needed, provides administrative support for the team. Duties may include editing and customization of donor materials and presentations; managing and manipulating information in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.; assisting with portfolio management; managing travel; compiling expense reports; and scheduling meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Skills and Qualifications:


Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • 3 - 4 years of experience working in development office at a non-profit or education institution.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and goals, problem-solve, and prioritize among assignments.
  • Self-motivated and goal/deadline oriented.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Proficient in Windows environment, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Salesforce, and Internet.
  • Excellent computer skills, including fundraising database knowledge.
  • Demonstrated creativity and flexibility.
  • Keen writing, editing, and proofreading skills a must.
  • Promptness, reliability, sound judgment, and ability to maintain confidentiality required.
  • Working knowledge of the mission and programs of Women for Women International, including strong commitment to working with women and women’s issues.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
  • Desire to work in a fast- paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Working knowledge of administrative and office procedures.

 

Physical Demands:

  • May require bending, lifting, standing, sitting, computer work, etc.
