Since 1993, Women for Women International has helped over 495,000 marginalized women in countries affected by war and conflict. We serve women in 8 countries offering support, tools, and access to life-changing skills to move from crisis and poverty to stability and economic self-sufficiency.

We bring women together in a safe space to learn life, business, and vocational skills. Once enrolled, each receives a monthly stipend – a vital support that enables her to participate.

Women increase their ability to earn an income with new skills that are in-demand. They learn about their legal rights, and they become knowledgeable about health and nutrition. The result: stronger women, stronger families, and stronger communities. This ripple effect is profound.

Internship Description:

The Summer 2019 Communications intern will assist the Communications Department through project management and external facing content creation. The intern will contribute to specific projects under the supervision of the Communications Director. The internship will require 20-25 hours per week commitment with an anticipated start date of May 28th, 2019 and possible End Date: August 16th, 2019; a $195 monthly stipend will be provided.

This is an excellent opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students looking to obtain valuable experience in the not-for-profit space, and the inner workings on an international nonprofit grassroots women’s development organization.


The list below indicates the types of Communications projects on which the intern might work-

  • Support Communications team by prioritizing and coordinating daily tasks;
  • Serve as a project manager for those tasks.
  • Assist with content creation for social media and blog accounts to help spread the word about our mission and to encourage fund raising;
  • Schedule social media posts using HootSuite and Facebook scheduler.
  • Monitor news, WfWI ambassador accounts and follower comments for relevant content for our channels. Provide appropriate and supportive feedback;
  • Organize photo and video libraries, keep them updated as assets come in.
  • Research and help keep us up to date with current Communications industry trends and tools;
  • Identify upcoming editorial and speaking opportunities and possibly represent WfWI externally at events around DC area;
  • Assist Communications Team in organizing and archiving assets.


  • Undergraduate or Graduate student in Marketing, Communications, international development or a related field);
  • Strong research and critical thinking skills;
  • Ability to work interdependently and communicate with people;
  • Experience working in an office environment.
